Mobile Lock and Key Service for Ontario

Short answer: Julian's Locksmith offers lock and key service across Ontario from our San Bernardino base, every day from 6:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Typical visits combine rekeying, key cutting, lock repair and small locks like mailboxes or cabinets. We quote before starting, under California license LCO7891.

Lock and Key Service in Ontario, CA — Residential locksmith replacing a front door handleset

Not every lock that needs attention sits on a front door. Mailboxes, file cabinets, padlocks, gate latches, tool chests, desk drawers and RV compartments all have keys that get lost, bent or worn. A full lock and key service in Ontario handles those small locks alongside your house hardware, so you're not making separate trips for each one. Julian's Locksmith carries common cam locks, mailbox locks and padlocks, and we can often cut a key from the code stamped on a lock's face. Gather the orphaned locks and mystery keys from your garage before we arrive, and we'll match or replace them in one go.

What to know first in Ontario

When a new key won't turn, the cause is usually one of three things. The first is drift: each copy made from a copy picks up small errors, so the fourth-generation key on your ring is a slightly fuzzy version of the original. The second is the wrong blank. Kwikset and Schlage each make five-pin and six-pin versions of their common keyways, and a key cut on a blank that's close but not right will slide in and refuse to rotate. The third is the lock itself: years of dust, heat and missed lubrication leave pins sticking, so even a good key struggles. A proper lock and key service in Ontario sorts out which one you're dealing with. We read the lock, measure your best key, and when possible cut a new one by code from the lock's original specification rather than copying wear. If the cylinder is the problem, we clean it or re-pin it. Then we try every key in every lock, because a key that works in the front door but sticks at the back isn't finished.

Work included on a typical visit

  • Rekeying to a new key. Most residential locks from Kwikset, Schlage, Weiser and Yale rekey easily on site. Commercial cylinders, mortise locks and interchangeable cores take a little longer but follow the same idea. The result is one fresh key set for everything you choose, and nobody else's old copy still working.
  • Keying every door alike. Keyed-alike setups make life simpler for families, caregivers and dog walkers. Everyone carries one key, and a lost key means one rekey, not five. We stamp or color-code the new keys if you like, so nobody confuses the house key with the car or mailbox key on a crowded ring.
  • Repairing sticky, loose and binding locks. Locks rarely fail all at once. They stick, then grind, then refuse. We clean dirty cylinders, apply a dry lubricant made for locks, and replace worn springs or pins. Catching it at the sticky stage in Ontario usually saves the lock and avoids a key snapping off inside.
  • Padlocks and gate locks. Ranch gates, sheds, storage units and trailer hitches often collect a pile of mismatched padlocks over the years. We can supply padlocks keyed alike, rekey compatible ones, and label which key goes where. Shrouded-shackle models resist bolt cutters better on gates that face a road. Fewer keys means fewer lost ones.
  • Restricted and high-security keys. Some keys are deliberately hard to copy. Restricted keyways from Medeco, Mul-T-Lock, ASSA Abloy and Schlage's Primus line need authorization and controlled blanks. We'll explain how your system's key control works and help you order keys through the proper channel, which may take more than one visit to Ontario.

How Ontario shapes the job

Warehouses and yards around Ontario run on padlocks, cam-locked lockers, cabinet locks and office doors, often with keys scattered across shifts. We can key padlocks alike by area, replace lost-key locker cylinders, rekey office doors after personnel changes and give you a labeled key schedule. Restricted keyways are available for areas where copies must be controlled, such as tool cribs and cash offices.

Inland summers in Ontario are tough on locks and keys. Heat dries out factory grease, expands metal so bolts rub their strikes, and drains batteries in keypad and smart locks. If a lock gets stiff every afternoon, an adjustment usually fixes it. We also suggest keeping a mechanical key cut for every smart lock, because a dead battery on a hot day is a common lockout.

Commuters in Ontario leave early and get home late, so lock and key errands rarely fit into the day. That's where a mobile visit helps. We start at 6:30 a.m. every day and work until 11:30 p.m., so a rekey, new copies or a spare car key can happen before you leave or after you're back, with your car sitting in the driveway.

Example situations

  • Picture a homeowner in Ontario with a running list: the back door key only works when jiggled, the garage entry deadbolt wobbles, and the mailbox key vanished in the move. We'd cut fresh keys to the lock code, tighten and realign the deadbolt, replace the mailbox lock after checking ID, and rekey everything to one key. One visit, one invoice, and the junk drawer gets lighter.
  • Imagine an accounting office that discovers the night before an audit that nobody has keys to three locked file cabinets. We'd read the code stamped on each cylinder face, cut keys on site, and test them in every drawer. If one lock has been forced in the past, we'd replace it and key it to match the others.
  • Imagine a property on the edge of Ontario with a barn, a well house, two sheds and a pump enclosure, each closed with a different padlock and a ring of mystery keys. We'd open the padlocks nobody can match, replace them with weather-resistant padlocks keyed alike, and give the owner one key for every outbuilding plus clearly labeled spares.
  • A typical shop call: a boutique off Archibald Avenue has lost the keys to four glass display cases right before a weekend sale. Two locks have readable codes on the face, so we cut keys from those. The other two get new cam locks, and we key all four alike so a single key opens every case behind the counter.

From your call to the finished job

  1. Send us your whole list. Call (951) 903-3193 and tell us everything on your list, not just the most urgent item. Copies, sticky locks, a mailbox key, a padlock, a spare car key: knowing it all up front lets us quote the visit and load the right parts. A note on your phone beforehand helps.
  2. Brands, codes and photos. A quick phone photo of each lock and your keys helps us prepare. From a clear picture we can usually tell the keyway, the lock grade and whether rekeying or replacement makes more sense before we arrive in Ontario, which keeps the quote accurate and the visit short.
  3. One quote for the visit. Bundled jobs share one trip, so the price reflects that. We'll also point out where rekeying beats replacing, or where swapping a single cylinder avoids buying a whole new lock, so the quote covers what you need without extras you'd never miss.
  4. Arrival, ID and a walk-through. We walk the property with you in Ontario, try each existing key in each lock, and note what sticks, what wobbles and what's missing. That quick walk-through often turns up a gate lock, a garage entry door or a shed padlock you'd forgotten to mention.
  5. Cutting, pinning and repairs on site. We work through the list in a sensible order. Rekeying comes before key cutting, so every new key matches the final combination. Repairs and adjustments follow, then small locks such as mailboxes, padlocks and cabinets, which often get keyed to match the house.
  6. Every key tested in every lock. We hand over the keys counted and labeled if you'd like, and an itemized invoice listing each task and part with our license number, LCO7891. Old keys that no longer work can go back to you or into our disposal bag.

How we quote the job

  • How many tasks are on the list. A lock and key visit is priced task by task, but everything shares one trip. Five jobs in one visit cost less in total than five separate calls, because the drive and setup happen once. Give us the whole list for your Ontario property when you call, and the quote will reflect it.
  • Key types and blanks. A standard house key on a common Kwikset or Schlage blank is inexpensive to cut. Restricted keys need controlled blanks, sometimes ordered through the manufacturer. Car keys with transponder chips or smart fobs cost the most because of the electronics and programming involved.
  • Timing and urgency. A lock and key list rarely needs to be done tonight. If nothing's preventing you from locking up, book a convenient time and we'll arrive with everything ready. We're open weekends too, so you can book a slot ahead of a weekend move-in.

Every job gets a clear quote before any work starts. Call (951) 903-3193 with the details and we'll tell you what to expect for your situation in Ontario.

Practical tips before you call

  • Look at the face of your lock before you call. The brand name is stamped around the keyhole or on the deadbolt's thumb turn side. Knowing whether it's Kwikset, Schlage, Weiser or another brand tells us which blanks and pins to bring to Ontario. If the face is worn smooth, check the key bow instead.
  • Get a spare car key while you still have a working one. Programming a second key from an existing one is simpler than starting from scratch after the last key is lost. Keep the spare at home, not on the same ring or in the car.
  • If a key turns stiffly in only one lock, the lock is the issue, not the key. Try the same key in a second lock keyed alike. If it's smooth there, the first cylinder needs cleaning or new pins, and copying more keys won't fix it.
  • Always make copies from the original key, never from a copy. Each generation picks up small errors, and by the third or fourth copy the key barely works. Keep one original key in a drawer that's never carried, and use it only as the pattern for new copies.

What not to do

  • Copying a copy of a copy. Each round adds small errors, and eventually the new key won't turn at all. When a spare doesn't work, people blame the cutter, but the real fix is cutting fresh keys to the lock's code from a good original or the lock itself.
  • Ignoring a wobbly deadbolt or loose knob. Loose hardware only gets worse, and a lock that shifts in the door is easier to force. A few minutes of tightening, or a replacement spindle or screw, prevents a failure at a bad moment, like when you're rushing out.
  • Spraying household oil or penetrating spray into a lock. It loosens things briefly, then turns into a sticky paste that collects dust and grit. Locks need a dry lubricant made for them, and a gummed-up cylinder may need cleaning before it works properly again.

Service in Ontario

Ontario is about 25 miles from our San Bernardino base, roughly 33 minutes in light traffic via I-215 North to the I-15 junction at Devore. When you call, you get an arrival estimate based on where the technician is and the traffic at that moment.

Rush hour on Milliken Avenue can stretch a drive considerably. We'd rather give you a realistic arrival window than an optimistic one, and we'll call you if a closure or a crash changes the plan.

ID locked inside with your keys? That's a common situation, and it isn't a dead end. We can open the door, and you show us your license or a piece of addressed mail from inside before we pack up. If nothing inside proves residence, your landlord or property manager can usually confirm it by phone.

Frequently asked questions

Can all my house locks use the same key?

Usually. If the locks share a keyway, such as all Kwikset or all Schlage, we rekey each one to the same combination. A door with a different brand needs a matching cylinder or lock. Tell us how many locks you have and the brand on each one, and we'll quote the whole set for your Ontario home.

Why doesn't my copied key work?

Usually the copy was made from a worn key or from another copy, so it carries the wear forward, or it was cut on a blank that's close but not correct. Sometimes the lock itself is worn or dirty. We check the lock, measure your best key and cut new keys to code, then test them in Ontario before leaving.

Can you make a key without the original?

Often, yes. Many locks have a code stamped on the face, the key tag or the purchase paperwork, and we can cut a key from that code. If there's no code, we can decode the lock or remove the cylinder and read the pins. For house locks we'll need proof you live there; for vehicles, your ID and registration.

What if a key breaks off inside the lock?

Leave it alone and call us. Pushing the broken piece deeper or trying glue makes extraction harder. We'll pull the fragment with extraction tools, check the cylinder for damage, and cut a new key from the pieces or the code. If the key broke because the lock was stiff, we'll fix that too, so it doesn't happen again.

Can you copy a key stamped Do Not Duplicate?

The stamp alone doesn't stop copying, because the blank underneath is common. We still take it seriously. For a business or rental key, we'll want the owner's or manager's permission first. For a key you own outright, we'll ask a few questions. If you truly need copy control, a restricted keyway that requires authorization is the real solution.

Can you replace the lock on a file cabinet or desk?

Yes. Most office furniture uses cam locks or plunger locks with a code stamped on the face. We can often cut a key from that code, pick the lock open, or replace the cylinder with a new one of the right length and cam. We can also key a whole row of cabinets alike, so one key opens them all.

How far is Ontario from your base?

Ontario is about 25 miles from our San Bernardino base, roughly 33 minutes in light traffic. Arrival time depends on traffic and on the job the technician is finishing, so we give you an estimate on the phone before you commit.
