2025 Jeep Wagoneer S Key Replacement

Short answer: The 2025 Jeep Wagoneer S uses a smart proximity key with push-button start. New keys for it generally come from the Jeep dealer. Julian's Locksmith can still help: we open the car without damage and help you prepare the dealer order. Call (951) 903-3193.

2025 Jeep Wagoneer S Key Replacement: replacement car keys and smart fobs

If you need a key for a 2025 Jeep Wagoneer S, start with one honest fact: this generation's keys generally have to be ordered and coded through Jeep. That doesn't leave you stuck. We can open the car, help with the mechanical side and make sure the dealer visit happens once, with the right paperwork.

The Wagoneer S uses a proximity smart key with push-button start. Because the model is new and sold in modest numbers, aftermarket catalogs carry little reliable data on its fob part numbers, transponder type or emergency key, so we don't guess at them. If you need a key, we look up your VIN and tell you honestly whether the dealer is the only source. Buying a second fob from the dealer early is the simplest protection against losing every key.

What's specific to the 2025 Wagoneer S

2025 was the final model year of the Wagoneer S (1st generation). Late-run cars occasionally pick up running changes, so we check the VIN instead of assuming a 2025 Jeep Wagoneer S matches a 2024. At 1 year old, a 2025 Jeep Wagoneer S is usually still on its original keys and fob batteries. The most common call for a car this new is a second key, since many buyers leave the dealer with only one, or a replacement after a lost fob.

Smart-key cars like the 2025 Wagoneer S can be targeted with relay attacks that extend the fob's signal from inside your home, so keep fobs away from exterior walls or in a signal-blocking pouch, and have any missing fob erased from the car.

Key options for the 2025 Jeep Wagoneer S

  • Smart proximity key (push-to-start). Proximity keys bring a security trade-off worth understanding. Because the fob is always listening, thieves with relay equipment can stretch its signal from inside your house to the car in the driveway. Keeping the fob away from exterior walls, or in a signal-blocking pouch, closes that gap, and some fobs offer a sleep mode described in the owner's manual. If a smart key for your 2025 Jeep Wagoneer S is lost or stolen, programming a replacement is the moment to delete the missing fob from the car's memory. And be wary of used fobs from online sellers: a lot of them are locked to the vehicle they came from and can't be reprogrammed to yours.

How the Jeep immobilizer works on the Wagoneer S

Jeep's anti-theft history follows Chrysler, then Fiat Chrysler, then Stellantis. From about 1999 the Sentry Key Immobilizer System put a Texas 4D64 transponder inside a Y160-style key head on the Grand Cherokee WJ, and later on equipped Wrangler TJs and the 2002-2004 Liberty, while the 2000-2001 Cherokee XJ kept a plain metal key. From 2005 the chip changed to the Philips ID46, first in plain transponder keys and then in remote-head keys on the Liberty, Commander, Compass, Patriot and Wrangler JK. The 2008 Grand Cherokee and Commander adopted the Fobik, a bladeless fob that plugs into an ignition node, and the 2011 Grand Cherokee added a proximity version beside it before the 2014 refresh settled on a smart key. The Fiat era brought AES chips: the Cherokee KL and Wrangler JL use Hitag AES fobs, while the Italian-built Renegade's turn-key flip key carries a Megamos AES transponder. From about 2018 a security gateway module sits between the OBD-II port and the rest of the network, and the newest STLA Large vehicles (Wagoneer S, Recon and the 2026 Cherokee) run an electrical architecture that aftermarket tools are only starting to reach.

  • The Wagoneer S was sold as a 2024 and 2025 model; Jeep did not offer a 2026 model year.
  • It uses Stellantis's STLA Large electrical architecture, the same platform family as the Jeep Recon.

Getting a 2025 Wagoneer S key from the dealer

Key programming on the Wagoneer S currently runs through Stellantis dealer systems, and aftermarket tools have little or no coverage for STLA Large vehicles yet. We can still help by opening a locked Wagoneer S, checking ownership paperwork and coordinating a dealer key order or transport when every key is lost. We'll add on-site programming once dependable coverage arrives.

Replacement keys come from the dealer for now; we can help with lockouts and with coordinating the dealer visit.

How we help when the key must come from Jeep

Losing every key to a Jeep is fixable on site for most models from 2000 through the late 2010s, but the path depends on the generation. First we verify your ID and the registration or title, because no key gets made without proof of ownership. Next is the mechanical side: we cut the blade or emergency insert from the key code or by decoding a door lock. Then the immobilizer: we obtain the PIN and program new keys through the OBD-II port, which also removes the lost keys from memory. Some recent Jeeps add steps, such as gateway authentication or removing the RF hub for bench work, and the newest Stellantis platforms still go through the dealer. We tell you which case applies before any work starts.

  1. Get you back into the car. If the car is locked, we open it on site without damage, so you can reach the registration, the VIN plate and anything you need inside.
  2. Line up the dealer order. We help you gather what the Jeep dealer will ask for: the VIN, current registration or title, and photo ID in the owner's name. That avoids a second trip.
  3. Keep the car where it is if possible. Ask the dealer whether the key can be programmed with the car in place or whether it needs to be towed in. Some brands deliver a pre-coded key; others must program it at the vehicle.
  4. Plan for a spare. Once you have a working key, order a second one. Losing the only key on a dealer-only system is the slowest and most expensive situation to recover from.

Why the 2025 Wagoneer S needs a dealer key

On the 2025 Wagoneer S, the immobilizer and the keyless system trust only keys that Jeep's own system has authorized for that VIN. Programming happens through a secure online connection, and the key itself is usually ordered with the car's security data already written to it. Independent locksmith equipment is very capable on most vehicles, but on dealer-only generations like this one the honest answer is that the factory has to be involved. Being upfront about that saves you the cost of a wasted service call.

What to bring to the dealer

Bring the vehicle registration or title in your name, a matching government photo ID, and the VIN (on the lower driver's side of the windshield and on the door-jamb label). If the car is financed or leased, the dealer may also ask for the lender's paperwork, so call ahead and ask exactly what they need. If any key still works, bring it; adding a key is usually faster than replacing every key.

While you wait for the new key

Waiting on a factory key can take anywhere from the same day to a week or more, depending on stock. In the meantime, avoid buying a used key online; on dealer-only systems a used key almost never programs to a different car. If you're locked out of the car or need something from inside it, call us; that part is quick and doesn't depend on the dealer.

What affects the dealer's price for a Wagoneer S key

Expect the dealer's quote to include the key itself, a programming or setup charge, and sometimes a separate charge for cutting an emergency blade. If every key is lost, add the cost of getting the car to the dealership. Comparing two dealers is worth a phone call; programming charges vary more than the price of the key.

Avoid doing this twice

Once you have a working key for your 2025 Wagoneer S, order a second one while the car's information is already on file. On dealer-only systems, adding a key while one still works is simpler, faster and cheaper than replacing every key after a loss. Keep the spare somewhere you can reach quickly, not in the car, and note where you stored it.

Wagoneer S key battery

If a new replacement doesn't bring the fob back, the battery wasn't the problem. Common culprits include a battery holder whose solder joints have cracked from drops, contacts corroded by moisture, worn rubber button pads that no longer reach the circuit, or a board damaged by water. We can test whether the fob is transmitting at all and inspect the board closely. Sometimes a new shell or a resoldered holder solves it; sometimes the fob has to be replaced and programmed. Meanwhile, the car can usually still be started with the fob held at the backup spot described in the owner's manual.

Common Jeep key problems

  • Fobik and smart-key batteries fade fast in Inland Empire heat. Short remote range, a key that only works when held close, or a key-not-detected message usually calls for a fresh CR2032 or CR2450 cell rather than a new key.
  • In early 2022 Jeep paused sales of some new Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L models because the RF hub could fail to recognize the key fob. If a WL ignores its fob, check for open recalls first.
  • Aftermarket remote starters on Jeeps usually depend on an immobilizer bypass module. After keys are reprogrammed, or if the bypass loses its learned data, remote start can quit even though the key still starts the vehicle normally.
  • Remote-head keys on the Wrangler JK, Patriot, Compass and Liberty often wear out with cracked shells and blades that loosen in the head. If the transponder chip shifts or breaks, the engine may start briefly and then stall.
  • Wranglers and Gladiators live with removable doors, trail dust and water. Door and tailgate lock cylinders can stiffen or seize, and a cylinder service is often needed before a freshly cut key turns smoothly.

Tips from a mobile locksmith

  • Make the spare before you need it. Adding a key while one still works is quicker and less expensive than starting from nothing, and it keeps the simpler programming options available. Good moments are right after buying the car, or as soon as one of your two keys goes missing.
  • Be careful with discount fobs from online marketplaces. A listing may match your remote's shape while using a different frequency, chip or FCC ID, and many used smart keys are locked to their original vehicle. If you already bought one, send us the listing or a photo before the visit so nobody pays for a programming attempt that can't work.
  • Learn your car's dead-fob start method now, in the driveway, rather than in a dark parking lot later. Depending on the make, you hold the fob against the start button or place it in a marked pocket in the console. Also find the hidden keyhole on the driver's door handle and practice using the emergency blade.

Proof of ownership

Making car keys is regulated work in California. Locksmiths are licensed and overseen by the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services under the Locksmith Act, Business and Professions Code section 6980 and following, and Julian's Locksmith holds company license LCO7891. Verification protects you more than anyone: a locksmith who will make a key for whoever asks will also make one for someone who wants your car. We record your name, the vehicle and its VIN on a work order, and we politely decline jobs where ownership can't be established. You can look up our license at search.dca.ca.gov.

Frequently asked questions

Can a locksmith make a key for a 2025 Jeep Wagoneer S?

New keys for this vehicle generally have to come from the dealer. We can still open the car, cut emergency blades where the key has one, and help you coordinate the order. Replacement keys come from the dealer for now; we can help with lockouts and with coordinating the dealer visit. The 2025 Wagoneer S uses a smart proximity key with push-button start.

Is the 2025 Jeep Wagoneer S push-to-start?

Yes. The 2025 Wagoneer S uses push-button start with a smart proximity key, so a replacement has to be a programmed smart fob, not just a cut blade.

How long does a dealer key for a 2025 Jeep Wagoneer S take?

It depends on the dealer's stock and whether the key is cut and coded centrally. Some keys are available the same day, others take several days to arrive. Call the dealer's parts department with your VIN first, and call us if you need the car opened or an emergency blade in the meantime.
