2025 Audi S5 Key Replacement
Short answer: The 2025 Audi S5 uses a smart proximity key with push-button start. New keys for it generally come from the Audi dealer. Julian's Locksmith can still help: we open the car without damage and help you prepare the dealer order. Call (951) 903-3193.

If you need a key for a 2025 Audi S5, start with one honest fact: this generation's keys generally have to be ordered and coded through Audi. That doesn't leave you stuck. We can open the car, help with the mechanical side and make sure the dealer visit happens once, with the right paperwork.

From 2025 the S5 is a sedan on Audi's newest platform, with push-button start and a new-generation fob. Some 2025 S5 Sportbacks were still the previous generation and use the older MLB Evo key, so confirm by VIN before ordering. The new fob is coded to the car through Audi's online system, which means a matching part number alone isn't enough to make a key work.
What's specific to the 2025 S5
2025 was the first model year of the S5 B10 (S5 sedan). Early-production cars sometimes use different part numbers than later ones, so for a 2025 Audi S5 we confirm the exact key from the VIN or the old key's FCC ID before cutting anything. The key style carried over from the previous generation, but immobilizer data and part numbers can still differ, so a key from a 2024 is not a safe substitute.
At 1 year old, a 2025 Audi S5 is usually still on its original keys and fob batteries. The most common call for a car this new is a second key, since many buyers leave the dealer with only one, or a replacement after a lost fob. Smart-key cars like the 2025 S5 can be targeted with relay attacks that extend the fob's signal from inside your home, so keep fobs away from exterior walls or in a signal-blocking pouch, and have any missing fob erased from the car.
Key options for the 2025 Audi S5
- Smart proximity key (push-to-start). Proximity keys bring a security trade-off worth understanding. Because the fob is always listening, thieves with relay equipment can stretch its signal from inside your house to the car in the driveway. Keeping the fob away from exterior walls, or in a signal-blocking pouch, closes that gap, and some fobs offer a sleep mode described in the owner's manual. If a smart key for your 2025 Audi S5 is lost or stolen, programming a replacement is the moment to delete the missing fob from the car's memory. And be wary of used fobs from online sellers: a lot of them are locked to the vehicle they came from and can't be reprogrammed to yours.
How the Audi immobilizer works on the S5
Every Audi sold in the US from 2000 on has a transponder immobilizer, but the system behind it changed several times, and that history decides how a new key gets made. Through the mid-2000s, most models used a Megamos ID48 chip in an HU66 flip key, with the immobilizer data stored in the instrument cluster. The A6, Q7 and A8 that followed kept a flip key but added an entry-and-start module that has to be read during programming. Starting with the 2008 A5 and 2009 A4, the B8 family switched to a rectangular fob and moved immobilizer and keyless functions into a comfort control module known in the trade as BCM2; the C7 A6, first-generation A7 and D4 A8 use the same module family. Smaller MQB cars such as the 2015-2020 A3, the third-generation TT and the 2019-2025 Q3 go back to a cluster-based system. The 2017-and-later MLB Evo models protect their data far more heavily, and the newest Audis register keys through Audi's online system. US-market Audi remotes run on 315 MHz.
- The 2025 S5 sedan took over from the S4 as Audi's performance midsize sedan in the US.
- No coupe or cabriolet version exists for this generation.
Getting a 2025 S5 key from the dealer
Like the new A5, this S5 registers keys online through Audi's systems. Replacement fobs are ordered by VIN and activated by the dealer with the car present. We don't offer on-site programming for this platform, but we can open the car, check what you have and help you organize the dealer appointment or a tow if no key is left.
New-generation S5 keys come from the dealer and are coded online; we handle lockouts and help you plan the dealer visit.
How we help when the key must come from Audi
Losing every key to an Audi is often solvable, but the method depends on the era. On 2000s cars with ID48 flip keys, we read the immobilizer data from the instrument cluster, sometimes on the bench, then cut a new HU66 blade by code or by decoding the door lock. On 2008-2018 slot-start and push-button models, all-keys-lost usually means removing the comfort or entry-and-start module so its memory can be read directly, which takes time and care. On many 2017-and-later models, and on the newest platforms, a lost-all situation goes through the dealer, and the car may need to be towed there. In every case we confirm ownership with your ID and registration or title before starting, and we tell you which route your VIN points to before you pay for anything.
- Get you back into the car. If the car is locked, we open it on site without damage, so you can reach the registration, the VIN plate and anything you need inside.
- Line up the dealer order. We help you gather what the Audi dealer will ask for: the VIN, current registration or title, and photo ID in the owner's name. That avoids a second trip.
- Keep the car where it is if possible. Ask the dealer whether the key can be programmed with the car in place or whether it needs to be towed in. Some brands deliver a pre-coded key; others must program it at the vehicle.
- Plan for a spare. Once you have a working key, order a second one. Losing the only key on a dealer-only system is the slowest and most expensive situation to recover from.
Why the 2025 S5 needs a dealer key
Why can't a mobile locksmith simply program a new key for a 2025 S5? Because the newest security architectures keep the secret part of the process at Audi. The car will only accept a key whose encrypted data was issued for its VIN, and that data comes from the manufacturer through the dealer's parts and service systems. Some owners are told otherwise online; we'd rather tell you plainly before anyone drives out.
What to bring to the dealer
Before you call the dealer, collect three things: proof of ownership (registration or title), photo ID with the same name, and the 17-character VIN. Write down which keys you still have and whether any of them still start the car. That one detail changes the order, the price and whether the car has to be at the dealership for programming.
While you wait for the new key
While the dealer key is on order, protect what you have. If one key still works, keep it indoors and away from the car, and don't hand it to anyone you wouldn't trust with the car itself. If the car is locked with belongings inside, we can open it without damage. If the key has a mechanical emergency blade, ask us about cutting a spare blade by code so you can at least lock and unlock the doors.
What affects the dealer's price for an S5 key
Dealer key pricing depends on the key type (a smart key costs more than a basic remote key), whether the car needs to be at the dealership for programming, the dealer's programming or labor charge, and whether a tow is involved because no working key remains. Ask for the total, parts plus programming plus any tow, before you agree, and ask whether ordering two keys at once lowers the per-key cost.
Avoid doing this twice
Once you have a working key for your 2025 S5, order a second one while the car's information is already on file. On dealer-only systems, adding a key while one still works is simpler, faster and cheaper than replacing every key after a loss. Keep the spare somewhere you can reach quickly, not in the car, and note where you stored it.
S5 key battery
A fob battery rarely dies all at once. The warning signs build: you have to get closer to the car before the doors respond, the dash shows a key battery or key-not-detected message, or the push-button start only works with the fob held near the button. Inland heat speeds that decline, especially for fobs left in a hot cabin or on the dashboard. Keep a spare replacement at home in a cool drawer, sealed in its original package, and buy from a busy store where stock turns over quickly. A cell that sat on a shelf for years may arrive already partly spent.
Common Audi key problems
- Used keys pulled from another Audi are usually locked to that car. Some comfort-module-era keys can be reset with special equipment, but many later keys cannot, so check with us before buying a used fob.
- Flip keys from the 2000s wear out at the pivot, so the blade stops locking open or flops loose. A new shell with a fresh HU66 blade can usually take your original transponder and remote board, which avoids reprogramming the car.
- Remotes on older Audis can lose sync after a battery change. Pressing a remote button and then unlocking the driver's door with the blade within about a minute often resyncs them; if not, the remote needs adapting with a scan tool.
- Keys bought online are often European versions running on 433 or 868 MHz. Even if the chip can be programmed, the buttons will never work on a US Audi, because US models use 315 MHz remotes.
- A weak fob battery on push-button models triggers a key-not-detected warning. The transponder works without battery power, so holding the fob at the backup spot shown in your owner's manual usually lets the car start until you replace the cell.
Tips from a mobile locksmith
- Photograph the back of your fob and any key tag that came with the car. The FCC ID, part number and key code printed there make ordering a replacement faster and more accurate. Store the photos somewhere you can reach from any device, not only on the phone that might go missing along with the keys.
- Never hide a spare key or fob on the outside of the car. Magnetic boxes in wheel wells and under bumpers are the first places a thief checks, and with a proximity fob, a hidden key can let anyone open the doors and drive away. Keep the spare at home or with someone you trust.
- When a key's head cracks or its blade bends, replace it before it fails. A transponder chip can slip out of a split head, and a bent blade can break off inside the ignition or door lock, turning a simple key replacement into an extraction and repair job. Small symptoms are the inexpensive time to act.
Proof of ownership
Not every situation fits the simple case, so here's how we handle the common exceptions. For a leased or financed vehicle, a registration that lists you as the registered owner or lessee works with your ID. If you just bought the car, bring the signed title or bill of sale along with your ID. For a company or fleet vehicle, we need written authorization from the business plus the driver's ID. If the car belongs to a family member, the registered owner should be present or provide signed permission and a copy of their ID. Rental vehicles go through the rental company.
